Community

At Petah Tikva, we are fortunate enough to hold many programs throughout the year for our members and community.  Some of these programs include:

Zareinu  Learn-a-thon

Each year, Petah Tikva is proud to host the Zareinu Learn-a-thon. It is an evening of Jewish unity in support of the children of Zareinu. Participants raise funds and spend an evening engaged in learning Jewish texts, philosophy, ethics, history and more. 100% of the funds raised go to support Zareinu Educational Centre / Kayla’s Children Centre.

Apple Picking

For more than 10 years, every year right before Rosh Hashana our community gathers at Chudleigh’s Farm for a great day of apple picking and playtime. The kids enjoy wagon rides, getting lost in the huge hay maze, balloons, pony rides and more! Everyone is welcome!

Arts Program

This wonderful program for children and adults of all ages usually runs for 6 sessions and offers a variety of crafts such as clay sculpting, pottery painting, glass melting, painting on canvas, and glass etching.

Dinner of Miracles

The Dinner of Miracles is a UJA initiative which is sponsored by and held at Petah Tikva. Opportunities are limited for young Jewish adults to interact with Holocaust Survivors in a meaningful way. UJA’s Dinner of Miracles provides a special opportunity for both groups to share a meal and experiences in an informal setting. For more information or to purchase a ticket, please visit: https://jewishtoronto.com/dinnerofmiracles.

New Moms & Meals

This wonderful program is offered to all new mothers in our community. After giving birth, the last thing you need to do is worry about meal preparation for your family. The New Moms & Meals program will deliver freshly prepared, kosher meals to your home for two weeks.

If you know a new mom that could benefit from this program, please contact our office.

Ladies Tehilim Group

Sadly, we all know sick people that could benefit from our prayers. Every week, twice a week, a wonderful group of women say tehilim for those in need of a refuah shelema (speedy recovery). The time and effort these women put into saying tehilim for the refuah (healing) of cholei yisrael (sick members of Am Yisrael) is a huge mitzvah. We are proud to have these women as part of our synagogue and community. For further information, please visit https://tehillim.weebly.com or contact Talia Osiel at 416.305.5876.

Hilula of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai

This wonderful and meaningful evening is an annual event at Petah Tikva and is held in memory of our dear members who have passed away. The Hilula of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai commemorates the lives of the Zadikim in Jewish History. We mark this special holiday by eating fruit, particularly from the kinds that are singled out by the Torah in its praise of the bounty of the Holy Land: grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates. The program for the kids includes having a special birthday cake to celebrate the trees as well as entertainment and snacks.

Purim Carnival

The annual Purim Carnival is open to everyone in our community. Kids of all ages enjoy delicious pizza and treats, jumping castles, inflatable games, bouncy castles, inflatable slides, face painting, fun entertainment and more! Critters and camels have been known to make an appearance. Parents rave that Petah Tikva’s Purim Carnival is the best in the city!
